All About The Pads:

All pads were designed by me, I worked very hard at perfecting my patterns to ensure a unique, comfortable, reliable and stylish AIO (all in one) cloth menstrual pad.

All fabric patterns I offer are meant to be stylish and appropriate for women. I believe cloth pads should be fun and functional, also a way for a woman to match her personal needs with her own style. I offer a lot of fabric choices, but I am very careful to steer clear of baby and childish prints. You might find the occassional nostaligic characters (Hello Kitty, Cabbage Patch Kids, etc) but you won't find duckies and fire trucks.

All pads have a top layer consisting of 100% cotton or flannel and a soaker made of absorbant layers of 100% organic cotton material. By "default", all pads then have a hidden layer of leak-proof pul that does not cover the whole pad, to make it more breathable (except on my "simple" pantyliners or those ordered by request with no pul). All pads have a bottom layer of color coordinating, water resistant fleece. The fleece acts as a waterproof back up and helps the pad stay in place by creating a friction against your underwear.

Those pads that have wings will have matching, durable poly resin snaps that are applied with a professional snap press. Poly resin snaps last longer and don't rust or fall apart like metal snaps. They're also much more fun to use because I match the color snaps with your fabric choice!

All fabrics/materials used in making Punky's Pads have been prewashed in hot water and dried in a hot dryer. This way they won't shrink and it gets rid of any yucky fabric store smells! All pads are turned and topstiched (except for "simple" liners and circle pads, those are serged)), but the inner layers are securely serged and sewn in so they won't bunch up and fray, which can cause awful irritating results. I also sew channels in my pads which helps evenly distribute your flow.

How Punky's Pads came to be:

Punky's Pads started in July of 2006. I had just given birth to my daughter in May by a difficult csection. I unexpectedly got my period early (despite constant breastfeeding!) and I ran to the store to get some pads. I was miserable, I thought, "There's got to be something better". While I was pregnant with my daughter, I was busy making loads of cloth diapers. During my endless hours of surfing the web for cloth diaper sewing sites, I found one that mentioned "mama cloth". At the time I didn't think too much of it, since I was pregnant and had no need for pads! Luckily, while suffering with disposables, I remembered cloth pads! I thought, "Why not? I already use cloth diapers on my daughter, why not use cloth for myself?".

The same night I remembered the cloth pads, I made some. They weren't the best, but they were so much better than plastic! I showed my husband and he encouraged me to continue making them for myself and mentioned making them for other women as well. A few weeks went by and I spent all my free time making cloth pads. My nickname is Punky and has been since childhood, so "Punky's Pads" was born. I designed ALL of my pad patterns myself and I spent a lot of time perfecting them.

I haven't used a disposable pad since and they're my favorite thing to sew. I have been sewing for as long as I can remember and selling my handmade items since 1999. My pads first started on ebay, where I still continue to sell them. I am happy that I can stay home with my 2 children by doing something I love, while keeping landfills free of disposable products and making a lot of women a lot more comfortable during their period! I love what I do and enjoy it immensely. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and browse my site, but thank you most of all for being a cloth pad user! It means a lot to myself and my family!

More about "Punky"

My real name is Jackie, I live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania but was born and raised in Lancaster County, where we plan to move back to soon. I am married to my wonderful husband, David. We have a 6 year old son, Caleb and a 1 year old daughter, Rosemary. We spend a lot of time together and enjoy going on little day and road trips, taking lots of walks, visiting parks and playgrounds.

When I'm not spending time with them or sewing pads, I enjoy reading historical accounts and historical fiction, as well as some biographies and authors like Stephen King, Marge Piercy, just to name a few. Music is also something very important to me, lots of Rasputina, Johnny Cash, The Birthday Massacre, etc. I love to play around on my pink cello and am learning to master certain techniques. I also spend some of my free time knitting, crocheting and sewing for my family. I've got lots going on in my life, I have many interests and I tend not to do anything that's not somewhat productive.
